Escambia County deputies are searching for clues, after a second Cantonment convenience store was robbed within the past two weeks. Investigators say a man attempted to rob the Bindu Food Mart on Muscogee Roadjust after 10 o’clock Saturday night. Bars were put up after multiple instances where the Bindu Food Mart became a victim of robbery. But, with all the additions, it wasn’t enough to stop one suspect from trying to rob them again. ” I didn’t think they would be able to get robbed.”
It wasn’t the bars that kept the Bindu Food Mart from getting robbed. It was store clerk, Sonny Patel’s, daily routine of locking the front door at night that kept the robber from stealing anything. “He didn’t come inside because I locked the door and he just tried to open the door.” Patel says the suspect was wearing a mask and he couldn’t see their face…But he did see what the suspect was holding. “And I see him moving a gun…” The owners of Bindu Food Mart also had one of their other stores robbed last Saturday. Around 10:30 pm the C-M-P Food Mart at the corner of Highway 29 and Beck’s Lake Road was robbed and a store clerk was beaten with a gun. A k-9 unit was used to search for the man who fled on foot. “They didn’t catch him. It looked like the same guy probably.” Store employees say they think it’s the same suspect involved with both cases. But, deputies continue to search for answers. “Sonny Patel says following the two robberies over the last two weeks,EscambiaCounty deputies have upped their security in this area.
